Dantalian no Shoka Episode 12–We Go Way, Way Back

Recently, I have been hit head-on with the “lack of time because of school work, and other boring, non-anime, real-life” crap. So much to the point where my blogging backlog has built up that I actually feel like burning out due to the stress I put on myself.

Which makes me some sort of a reverse-NEET. And that, you know, kinda sucks.

But what can I do, right? I gotta take what time I have and use it wisely. Because of my disorganized habits, and occasionally demanding parents, free time for me is harder to find than gold.

Anyway, enough of me whining and complaining. I was really looking forward to the final Dantalian no Shoka episode because I had a very hard time imagining what it would turn out like. Dalian and Huey’s weekly Phantom Book-hunting did not even follow any kind of linear storyline. If not for the recurring characters and (mostly) same episode formula, I would have sworn each episode was a different show.

And that is a good thing. No, really.

Dantalian no Shoka Episodes 09 to 11–On Reliving Stories, Musical Narcotics, and Tragedy in War

The end of the season. Just the thought of the arrival of such an event makes me heave a great, depressed sigh. Especially in this Summer season of 2011. ‘Tis a shame that Dantalian, like all good things, must come to a close eventually.

It’s for the best, I really can’t imagine a Dantalian that is 2-cour.

Similar to this scene, the weather around my house is dark and gloomy. It really made catching up on Dantalian less pleasant than it should have been.

Dantalian no Shoka Episodes 07 and 08–That There is Definitely a Narcotic/Death Cannot Cure Idiocy

I’ve noticed a trend. It was something that has been repeated again and again on the internet, and is extremely obvious, but it’s something I had to realize myself to fully believe. Summer seasons really are the strongest in the year. Even shows that I pick up on a whim (like Dantalian here) impress me week after week with epicness. The same could not be said about Winter 2011 (cough Infinite Stratos cough). Madoka saved that season. Outright.

Dantalian continues with it’s monster-a-week plot line (except with creepy magical books), with badass Huey action most of the time. It’s really impressive how they can come up with such original and intriguing content on a regular basis. Episode 08, although it didn’t feature any new characters, felt more like a breather from the fast-paced monster-hunting and evil-corporation-toppling than a filler episode.

Counting on another Hal and Flamberge episode soon. I like the dark tone they bring to the show. Perhaps they’ll meet with Huey and Dalian? Have an epic battle against each other? Or no, because they’re on the same side, right? Oh, I’m just rambling.

Huey’s charm: 50% epic facepalm, 50% Daisuke Ono, ALL badass.

Dantalian no Shoka Episodes 05 and 06–Blind, Fake Love/Dreams Burn, You Know

And we’re back for best show of the season, Dantalian no Shoka. No, I don’t actually mean that (and it seems I’ve been touting every show as so far as “best” …strange habit). But, Dantalian no Shoka is commendable in a number of places. Most notably, being absolutely, bone-rattling, downright creepy. Yet coming off as epic, as well. In other words, creepy…in a good way.

Didn’t know that was possible.

Always funny, when taken out of context.

Dantalian no Shoka Episodes 03 and 04–No Natural Selection Involved

The past two episodes of Dantalian, the two of which are part of my post-vacation backlogging, have made me actively reconsider the priority at which I put this show on a weekly basis. It has gone from something along the lines of “yay! Another Dantalian episode! This’ll be interesting..” to “IS IT FRIDAY YET?! IS IT FRIDAY YET?!”.

Not only has the adventures of Huey and Dalian captivated me so much, the characters and strange phenomenon they discover are, with the lack of a better description, the stuff of nightmares. Although, I have to say the children and the carnivorous plant in episode 03 do not compare to the psychopathic shotgun lady in episode 04.

I’ve done it. I’ve lost sleep in the name of anime blogging. And not in the way you’d think.

Dantalian no Shoka Episode 02–Curse of an Overactive Imagination

Well, the poll results from that previous “backlog elimination” post came in, and Dantalian won by a long shot. I kind of anticipated that, because of the four shows, I ‘d say Dantalian must have the most draw to many people. What I didn’t anticipate was exactly how unpopular Blood-C is. I’ve encountered many who have a plethora of gripes, but personally, I don’t think it’s that bad. Maybe just because it just doesn’t measure up to the other ones.

I don’t care if Kana-tan is voicing a guy. She He needs more screentime.

Three Shows in the Summer Season, and Why I’m Not Blogging Them

The title should have been “bobbierob’s list of excuses”. Ahh, well. No matter.

Recently, it seems that I have grossly overestimated the amount of free time I have that is able to be devoted to blogging (summer school is a lot bigger pain in the ass than I thought). As a result, my original goal of putting out a “first impressions” post of the first episode of every show I am considering this season will have to be scrapped.

Or, at least, modified.

It’s really a shame I put off this show for so long. I just didn’t know such Aki Toyosaki goodness that was waiting.
