Fractale Episodes 06 and 07

Alright….I know I’m late, but Fractale 06 was just so….bland. And ep 07 was already out by the time I finished it, so yeah.

So, I’m aware that people don’t really want to read through a bunch of screenshots and random ramblings to get the gist of the episode, so I’ll put it up front. Episode 06? Filler. Or what seems like it. Episode 07? Shit really hits the fan. I swear, Fractale just got bumped way, way up on my “anticipation for next episode list” this season all because of the ending for episode 07.

I mean, c’mon, we’re looking for awesome sci-fi action here, not some princess dressed up like a nun peeling potatoes…

Episode 06

I’ll just sum up episode 06 right here. Clain and the members of Granitz village land their huge ship to do some maintainence, and generally take a break from flying non-stop (and perhaps replenish fuel? If they even use fuel?). Of course, getting off a ship you’ve been on for an extended period of time is perfect for a little bit of rest and relaxation, such as swimming in the lake (read: beach fanservice episode).

That’s our Clain, protector of justice.

The really sad part is, though, he’s chasing the old man for his camera, not to get the pictures of naked Phyrne back (although it’s probably like a secondary objective for him).

So Clain follows the guy to his house and he is overjoyed that the old man’s house is filled to the brim with antique stuff, like vacuum tubes and digital cameras and radio sets and telescopes and cell phones…

Hmm…maybe not so enthusiastic about the 12-gauge…

As it turns out, the guy’s building a tower full of antennas to get the Fractale signals back to where he lives, so the people living around there can be happy again. Sadly, though, the people living there have been duped by an rival terrorist gang (if you can say that?) and had their terminals removed. Poor them. Although their terrorist leader looks pretty damn evil.

In the end, it turns out that the old man was taking pictures of Clain, and not Phyrne. In an extremely unprompted moment of emotional tension, he gives Clain his digital camera and heads back home.

Go on! DON’T LET THE CANON EOS 5D MK.II FLAME DIE OUT!

As well, Phyrne finds a picture of Clain as a baby in the old man’s house after snooping around a little. Quite the thief, but what does that say about who the old man is?

Hmm? Doesn’t the man in that picture look suspiciously like…O_o

Episode 6 end.

Episode 07

Now onto the generally more interesting episode 07. With his new digital camera, Clain carries on the flame of voyeurism set by his (presumable) father. With some shots of Phyrne doing the laundry, no less.

Caught! Ahh, Clain, you still have much to learn…

Right afterwards, with absolutely no foreshadowing or any indication, we have Clain rather undressed with another woman with a….well it’s difficult to put in words. Anyway, he’s in some futuristic city called Xanadu. Not sure how he got there….

She looks evil. Don’t trust her.

That actually looks pretty sick.

Clain…you’re quite the…..I won’t even say it.

Oh. So it wasn’t a dream, and Clain isn’t suffering from amnesia. At least now we can rest assured that Clain really isn’t as much the pervert as Enri says he is.

Last evening, Clain and Nessa leave the ship, presumably to do some reconnaissance to scout out a landing spot. However, Nessa suddenly starts feeling funny and the flying machine conks out.

Uh-oh…

Just a suggestion, but perhaps something to do with the Fractale system?

That guy…looks awesome.

So the good people of Lost Millenium are still looking for Clain, and didn’t just decide to ditch him. Or they came back for the aircraft. Perhaps those things are expensive. We’ll never know.

Meanwhile in Oz Xanadu…

Wait, what is this I don’t even…

Clain, you crossdressing piece of shit.

So the creepy woman takes Clain out, and he realizes Nessa is gone. Like a good boy, he looks for her. Even though she could probably teleport back or something. The creepy woman knows where Nessa is, and leads Clain to one of her friends at whose house Nessa is currently sleeping.

As it appears, Nessa is currently being hacked, like with a virus. That’s what doppels get. They get all feverish when their antivirus software starts doing its thing. Bad analogy, I know, but that’s just how it works.

But isn’t she part of the CHOBITS SERIES or something?

Except these two aren’t the caring, nice people who care for wounded travelers. They know Nessa and Clain are wanted by the temple and they are prepared to do anything to turn them in and claim their reward. As well, these two aren’t the only ones who are actually evil here, the guys who took in the members of Granitz village (you know, the one riding the camels) are actually rich guys pretending to be naturalists who are actually making all of their money with their doppels in Xanadu city.

Enri saves the day.

From here on, Enri holds the AWARD FOR PURE AWESOME. Oh, and Phyrne has quite the hallucination problem. Anyway, now that they’ve assaulted a member of the village, it’s time to ditch. Speaking of ditching, that’s exactly what Clain is doing at this point.

I have to admit, the drawings for this city are pretty nice. Well, I’m probably a sucker for sci-fi city designs….

Damn, she’s fast.

So evil creepy woman appears. Not so scary, right? A doppel and a crossdressing pervert can take her, right? Wrong. You underestimate the doppel.

Uh-oh

See? Well at least we now know that Nessa is capable of completely obliterating the Fractale system in a certain area.

However, the battle is not yet won. That evil guy with the suits of armour? Well, he’s pretty cunning. And he’s back, with some talk about Nessa being the “key” to Fractale.

Tiro Finale?

Well, maybe we’re supposed to feel bad for him.

Wait. No. SHIT. NO. CLAAAINNN!!!

Damn. Now do you know what I meant by “shit goes down”? This episode of Fractale, in my opinion, pulled it back together. Somewhat. I’m pretty confident in believing that they will be able to execute this rather well, seeing as the plot is moving forward in a certain direction and more and more about the Fractale System and Nessa’s origin is revealed. I really hope that the production team know where they’re going with this, because it’s giving off the vibe that it can pull off a great ending, even if we’re only halfway through the season.

You know, those shows with really slow starts that pull it all together in the final 2 or 3 episodes and really become a masterpiece? Fractale can be one of them. Or it can not be one of them. We can only hope. Don’t really want something with such impressive background visuals to go to waste.
